A caring and generous community has supported FSD for many years.
Whenever there are resources available to support the cause of learning and safety, our community steps up every time.
Here's a recent example.
Perhaps you've already seen this photo in the Frankenmuth News.
But it's worth re-sharing and extending our appreciation once again.
We can't say thank you enough to the Frankenmuth Women's Club and the Frankenmuth Credit Union for giving FSD three Life Vac School Kits.
Having a quick response Life Vac in each one of our schools adds to our crisis-readiness, as it can help remove items from the airways of anyone who may be choking.

Are you interested in learning outside of the regular school day? Or does providing funding for programs or projects for your students sound good to you?
The Frankenmuth School District Foundation provides grants to pay for these opportunities for staff and students. Fundable activities may include any educational institute, workshop, music, or arts program NOT conducted by the Frankenmuth School District.
The program must be educational in nature. Examples may include student exchange programs, a university or other summer youth program in science, math, music, journalism, yearbook, choir, drama, vocational education, or an extracurricular fine arts program.
NO sports camps, faith-based activities, general summer recreational camps, regular high school or college credit classes, therapeutic or private music lessons are eligible.
Material and equipment grants may also be provided for individual high school students who take an approved independent study class as part of their curriculum.

Did you know having an eagle as our district's mascot gives us an excellent model for us to connect with our new Strategic Plan?
If you want to be inspired, click on the link below.
It's amazing to observe this eagle as it navigates over a mountain range like no other creature can.
Obviously, eagles have a tremendous ability to soar.
But did you know eagles harness this unique ability to avoid the storms, winds, and rain that hamper other birds?
This isn't because eagles carry umbrellas and wear raincoats.
Rather, they are able to powerfully and wisely soar above the clouds, well above the turbulence below.
In a way, our new Strategic Plan can help FSD in a similar fashion.
Not that it will allow our district to avoid occasional storms and turbulence, of course, but our Strategic Plan will help us better navigate and reduce the intensity and uncertainty of tough times while also placing us in a better position to take advantage of the opportunities that'll improve learning and the futures of every FSD student.
Keep checking in here as Superintendent Hegenauer posts updates about FSD's progress this new year!

The COMPETITIVE CHEER season takes place this winter and could use a few more athletes on team. If interested, please contact Coach Mackinley Prentice at: [email protected]
Athletic Director Kevin Schwedler frequently kids FHS Cross- Country star Mary Richmond because of the dent she is making in the school athletic budget.
"Mary is the top runner in school history, breaking record after record since her freshman year," Kevin points out. "So, I always joke with her about how she's costing me money every time we need to update the record board."
Most likely Kevin will be making more record board updates in the future as Mary will return as a senior to run cross-country next year.
She has been All-State her freshmen, sophomore, and junior years. And a year ago, she finished second in state at Division II.
This year, Mary won the Tri-Valley Conference 8 and Tri Valley All Conference meet which featured 17 teams. She was also the Outstanding Female Athlete at the Greater Flint Championships, was named the Star of Stars at the Holly Festival of Races for top female athlete in all classes, won the Saginaw County Championship, won Regionals for the third straight year, and captured third at state.
"Best of all, Mary's a great student," said Kevin. "She earned All-Academic, All-State and she's a wonderful unselfish teammate."
"Mary doesn't let her accomplishments go to her head," said her coach Mike Snyder. "She's a very humble person."
Mary's school record time currently stands at 17:56.0 and she has her sights set on running in college.
She started competing in cross country in seventh grade and she's never looked back.
"I have loved participating in cross-country ever since," Mary said. "The team feels like a part of my family."
The work on our district's Strategic Plan continues and parent, community, and staff input is a critical component of this.
If you're a high school student or older, please set aside 6-8 minutes our district survey.

The recent survey on Safe and Collaborative School Culture was just the beginning. There will be additional surveys throughout the school year.

We need your help with Science Olympiad! We are looking for professionals in our community (people with experience in the fields of science, engineering, machinists, chemistry, healthcare, etc.) who would be willing to use their background to help "write tests" to challenge our Science Olympiad competitors during the tournament. We are also seeking volunteers from the same group of professionals to help create actual "hands on" challenges in keeping in their field for our Science Olympiad competitors to tackle during the event.
For example, a machinist might challenge students to design or build a better mousetrap. We're open to all kinds of ideas.
The tournament on March 5 is an in-person, daytime event. But even if you cannot attend, we could still use your help prior to March 5 with the "test writing" component.
If you're interested in helping or would like more information, please contact Jessie Bassett at [email protected] or (989) 652-9955 Ext: 1806. We appreciate your consideration!

Our Summerstock Theatre Camp and Technical workshop worked so hard! In 9 days the children learned lines, characterization, music, song and dance routines, built a set, made props, learned sound, lighting and so much more. The students put together the show "Twinderella" and they were absolutely amazing!
Back in January, the Saginaw County Health Department and first year med students from CMU came to the Bronner Performing Arts Center to vaccinate over 250 people.
This was the first time since last February that the BPAC has people on the stage and in our seats. And we didn’t take this opportunity lightly. Community Education Director Megan Carrigan popped popcorn for our visitors to enjoy as they departed and BPAC Director Eric Johnson turned on the sound system to pipe in music.
We're thankful for the opportunity to support the County Health Dept. and help vaccinate our community!
Charlotte Greenlee, from the Class of 1958, sent in the nicest letter with this fun story and kindergarten class photo from 1944.
Charlotte shared, "Mrs. Zink (the teacher at the time), emptied her living room of all furniture and set up four six-foot tables to serve as the kindergarten classroom.
The most memorable event in kindergarten was the day that Uncle Ben Trinklein's pig escaped from his pen (their farm was across the street from the Zink home.) All the students had to put on their snowsuits, boots, hats, and mittens, and under the supervision of Mrs. Zink, we chased the pig back into her pen!"
What a great story of Frankenmuth kindergarten back in the day! And isn’t it wonderful how kindergarten faces look just as adorable then as they do now?
Kristy Haskell is one of a kind. Not only is Kristy busy as a mom, school volunteer, our crossing guard, she works for the City of Frankenmuth as a water meter reader.
List Elementary Principal Jill Waliczek describes Kristy this way. "FSD is a special place because of all of the people who come together and contribute to our amazing culture. And Kristy Haskell is definitely one of these people.
As our school crossing guard, Kristy reports to work without fail, rain or shine, to ensure that kids get to school safe and that traffic flows smoothly. Kristy knows most of our students well and is sometimes the first adult they interact with outside of their home. She provides a sense of routine and safety to our students who walk to school each day. We are so grateful for her!"
Al “Chick” Rodammer has been a big part of Eagles Football for 40 Years. Here's why Al does what he does what he does for our football program!
"Tradition is typically the staple of every respected and winning athletic program. And thanks to the dedication and care given by the FSD varsity football coaches – both past and present – tradition is a big part of our successful Eagles Football Team.
I have been proud to volunteer and help promote the football team’s rich traditions by maintaining team and individual records for 40 years. When I see past teams come together for reunions and homecomings, and also see our coaches inspire today’s players by highlighting the deep roots of their football program, I know my work has merit."
Diane Terrian, has been a bus driver at Frankenmuth Schools for 27 years. She never fails to have a warm smile to greet every student personally, decorating her bus, sharing holiday treats, and attending her student-passengers’ graduation parties.
She also trains every new FSD bus driver and, in fact, boasts a 100% completion rate in helping every driver pass the mandatory CDL tests needed for certification.
Here's Diane herself! "People ask me why I drive a bus. They want to know 'Am I crazy?' Well, I tell them that this has been the best job ever.
Yes, I enjoy holidays and summers off, but it’s so much more than this. Frankenmuth is a good district to work for. The kids are well-mannered and respectful, and FSD has been supportive and helpful to its drivers. I like how the 'Frankenmuth Way' includes our school transportation department, too.
Great kids. Great families. Great FSD staff. It’s been a great 27 years!"
