Like our other FSD staff members, Susan Maki played a big role in helping our grads earn their diplomas.
Unlike most of our staff, however, Susan and her entire family had the honor of celebrating the graduation of her daughter Emma, a proud member of the FHS Class of 2025.
After 25 years at EFR Middle School as an English Language Arts teacher Susan Maki will be retiring as an Eagle to move to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and live among the Demon Deacons.
In July 2024, her husband Brad Maki - who for years had commuted from Frankenmuth to work in the University of Michigan's Registrar's Office in Ann Arbor - decided to ditch the three-hour-per-day commute by accepting a position with the Registrar's Office at Wake Forest University.
They agreed Susan should remain in Frankenmuth for the 2024-2025 academic year so their daughter Emma could graduate from Frankenmuth High School, as did her brother Aiden in 2023.
"We have loved and appreciated the strong sense of community in Frankenmuth," Susan said. "I've always had the feeling that the community was watching over my kids and supporting our family. That's just the way people are here. It's not easy to leave a place where you feel that supported."
Thank you, Susan, for your dedication, passion for teaching excellence, and longtime service to the students and families of FSD.
